On June 25, the Bombay High Court granted bail to the minor defendant in the Pune automobile accident case, which resulted in the deaths of two software workers in the city last month.
The minor, who was placed in an observation home due to protests about his bond, will now be released under the court’s decree and will be looked after by his aunt. His grandfather and parents have also been detained in connection with an alleged cover-up.
The court stated that the petitioner, a paternal aunt, would be responsible for the care and custody of the CCL (Child in Conflict with Law), noting that the petitioner had experienced trauma during the entire process.
On May 19, a speeding Porsche automobile driven by a juvenile who was apparently intoxicated struck a motorcycle carrying two IT workers in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar, killing them.
After Juvenile Justice Board member L N Danwade granted the accused very moderate bail conditions, including writing a 300-word essay on traffic safety, the case caused a national outrage.
In the face of widespread indignation, police requested a review of the judgment from the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) after he was granted bail. The youngster was placed to an observation home after the JJB changed its order.
The judge stated that in the “immediate reaction to the accident, the kneejerk reaction and the public outcry, the CCL’s age was not considered.”
“The CCL is not older than eighteen. The bench stated that “his age needs to be taken into consideration,” as per a PTI report.
