Yashtika Acharya, a 17-year-old powerlifter and gold medallist at the Junior National Game, was sadly killed when a 270 kg weight bar collapsed on her, breaking her neck, at a gym in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Her trainer, who was watching over her during a training session on Wednesday, was also slightly hurt in the mishap.

After the accident, Yashtika was taken to the hospital right away, where the attending physicians declared her dead. According to police investigations, the accident happened when the trainer was giving her instructions for the weightlifting exercise.

Since then, a video of the terrifying event has gone viral on social media, causing shock and sadness to spread widely.With a gold medal in the Sub-Junior 84kg and above division in the National Bench Press Championship in Goa last year, Yashtika had already accomplished significant success in the powerlifting world.

Her family and the sports community are in mourning following her untimely and tragic demise. Even though the situation was serious, her family hasn’t yet brought a lawsuit.

Her body was given back to her family the following day after a post-mortem. Yashtika’s sport of choice, powerlifting, is renowned for its demanding physical requirements and incorporates three essential lifts: the deadlift, bench press, and squat. In contrast to Olympic weightlifting and bodybuilding, the sport focuses on achieving maximum strength in these exercises and incorporates particular training regimens to improve performance.
