According to an official statement from Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), Terminal 1 should be able to handle 20 million passengers a year following the rebuilding phase, which is a 42% increase over its current capacity. The official statement states that the project will start in November 2025 in phases. The current structure will be demolished in the first phase, and the new terminal will thereafter be built.

“To ensure minimal disturbance, the Terminal 1 change will take place in phases starting in November 2025. Terminal 2 (T2) will handle the extra traffic while construction is underway,” the MIAL stated in a press release.

By 2029, or eight years from now, the authorities anticipate that the Terminal 1 redevelopment will be finished. The project’s second phase entails constructing a new terminal concurrently with the completion of the old one’s modernization. Three years will pass before the changes are finished. The MIAL, which is run by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL), operates the CSMIA.
