One of the oldest philanthropic organizations in India, Tata Trusts, today announced its partnership with People For Animals, one of the biggest animal rights organizations in the nation, to construct a cutting-edge, multi-specialty veterinary hospital and emergency clinic that will provide accessible, cost-effective care for all domestic and farm animals. In two years, the hospital—which will be situated in Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai—should be prepared to receive patients. It is projected that the project will cost more than INR 100 crores, including infrastructure, facilities, and construction.

Advocating for animal rights and providing rescue and rehabilitation services to animals in need, People For Animals has been at the forefront of animal care in this nation. Throughout its 125-year history, Tata Trusts has been guided by the core values of empathy and a willingness to help. Reputable establishments such as the Tata Memorial Center, the Indian Institute of Science, and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences have been aided by it. People For Animals and Tata Trusts envision the Animal Care Center developing into a similarly prestigious national center for veterinary care.

The Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, declared, “The establishment of a cutting-edge animal care hospital in Mumbai by PFA and Tata Trusts is a proud moment for Mumbai.” They deserve my congratulations for taking part in such a worthy cause. The combination of Maneka Ji and Tata Trusts will enable the creation of capabilities that the entire nation may benefit from. Mr. Tata, you never cease to inspire us. One organization that has backed every excellent project in Maharashtra is Tata Trusts.

Tata Trusts is transforming people’s lives by reaching out to the underprivileged and the last member of society. I am confident that the people of Maharashtra will gain from this upcoming project, and I appreciate People For Animals and Tata Trusts for stepping up to support this effort. I guarantee that the Maharashtra government will always be at your side.

Smt Maneka Gandhi, Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Founder, People For Animals (PFA) said, “I would like to thank Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Mr. Ratan Tata for their support to realize a vision that dates back to 35 years when Pritish Nandy, MF Hussain, Mario Miranda, Anupam Kher and I came together and voiced our need for a pan-India animal organization.”

Continuing, “I approached Tata Trusts and they have always helped me for various programs and I am deeply grateful for this. Today, what is taking place is a miracle. I am deeply grateful that the Chief Minister agreed to come and be with us today. He runs a pragmatic, compassionate and good government. I extend my best wishes to make this hospital an amazing one in the years to come.”

Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman, Tata Trusts, said, “Today is a very special day for me, because it is a dream for me and I can see it coming true. A state-of-the-art animal and care unit for the city of Mumbai was much needed. We are happy…. Tata Trusts has agreed to fund this facility as it will help save animals beings who give so much of themselves to us. A promise has been made to give the city a good facility and I trust all of us who have been involved, to have the passion and integrity to make this happen.”

The Animal Care Center’s goal is to create a cutting-edge 9,000 square meter hospital that offers emergency, in-patient, and out-patient care for both small and large animals. The facility will provide recovery rooms, imaging and pathology facilities, a critical care unit, and operating rooms, among other amenities. It is designed to be a one-stop shop offering top-notch veterinary care, including specialized services in trauma surgery, dentistry, orthopaedics, and other therapies that are currently unavailable in the greater Mumbai area.

The proposed hospital will provide continuing veterinary education and training, as well as workshops and programs for the skill development of practicing veterinarians, in addition to providing medical facilities for animals. To help develop a pool of skilled individuals who can assist the hospital and help meet India’s larger need for human resources in the field of animal healthcare, the Center will also provide training for veterinary support workers.

With partners like Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, global leaders in veterinary care, Tata Trusts and People For Animals are dedicated to making sure that the Animal Care Center becomes a first-rate facility for animal healthcare in India. Cornell University will contribute their knowledge to the project and offer suggestions for the facility’s layout, design, and management.

The Animal Care Center, in the opinion of People For Animals and Tata Trusts, is a ground-breaking project that will address an urgent need for the health and welfare of animals.
