On Monday, November 20, during the 51st International Film Awards, producer Ekta Kapoor won the Directorate Award, making history as the first Indian woman producer to win the International Emmy Directorate Award. Furthermore, Vir Das and the third season of Derry Girls were recognized with the International Emmy for Comedy. It was Vir Das’s second International Emmy nomination.

The actor and comedian took home the prize for Vir Das: Landing, his Netflix comedy special. He became the first comedian from India to receive this distinction as a result.

Ekta Kapoor posted a video of the coveted trophy to Instagram with the remark, “India I’m bringing home YOUR Emmy @iemmys.”

The International Emmy Awards’ official X handle declared, “We have a tie!” after Vir Das’s victory. “Vir Das: Landing, produced by Weirdass Comedy/ Rotten Science/Netflix, wins the International Emmy for Comedy.”

The industry has benefited from Ekta Kapoor’s contributions, as seen by her triumph. Her victory is a personal achievement as well as a testament to her innovative and avant-garde work, which has produced material for decades that has connected with a wide range of audiences.

Reflecting on this historic achievement, the producer shared her gratitude and stated, “I’m delighted to receive the prestigious Emmys Directorate Award! It brings me immense joy and happiness to be honoured at a global scale, such as this. I’ve always wanted to tell stories because they give me a chance to be heard, seen and represented.”
