Eleven people, most of whom were migrant labourers, lost their lives after inhaling toxic gas leak in Ludhiana’s Giaspura area early on Sunday morning.
The police and NDRF personnel are at the spot and conduction an investigation into the incident.
Police informed that they have not yer determined the gas’s kind or its source of release.
According to local witnesses, the gas may have seeped from the gutter due to the recent rains clogging it.
They described is as terrifying and suffocating. they witnessed people passing out as the gas spread over the region.
Arvind Chaubey, one of the witnesses, said he observed smoke shooting out of a gutter. Additionally, he recorded videos of people who passed out on the road.
Arvind Chaubey claimed that his brother informed him about the gas leak. They were going to play cricket.
Since it was a sunday, we intended to play cricket. My brother first told me there was a gas leak around 7 a.m. We arrived at the scene and made an effort to save the gas victims.
The person was taken away by an ambulance after I discovered one of them to be alive. To be alive is a blessing. it was dreadful and oppressive. Breathing was challenging, he claimed.
Ashish Chaubey, Arvind brother, claimed to have witnessed individuals passing out while attempting to save loved ones.
“I noticed a husband dousing his wife in water. She was not awake. He requested my assistance. He also collapsed unconscious just as i was preparing to assist him.
“There was thick, oppressive smoke all around. After i called the police they showed up” he claimed.
Authorities believe that the freezers that were maintained in the grocery shop may have also been the source of the gas leak.
Residents nearby were affected by the gas because the incident took place in an industrial/residential area.
Eyewitness Arzoo khan claimed to have lost his 12-year old sibling. “In the incident, my 12-year old brother perished. When the incident occurred, he was in his room. According to him, the majority of the deceased were from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Still, many people are believed to be confined to their homes. The region has been blocked off, and the homes and factories have been evacuated.
