Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that if the BJP replaces the Congress-led government in Rajasthan, petrol prices will drop by at least Rs 11.80 per litre ahead of the state election later this month.
Ahead of the state’s polls, fuel prices in Rajasthan have become a hot topic of discussion in the election. The BJP has attacked the Congress-led administration, stating that they are selling fuel at a significantly higher price than in BJP-ruled surrounding states.
If the BJP were to win power in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised that the party will reassess the cost of gasoline and diesel in an effort to ease the burden on regular people.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said before of the Rajasthan polls that petrol prices in the state would drop by about Rs 11.80 per litre should the BJP unseat the Congress-led administration. He claimed that extra cess was imposed by the Congress-led government in Rajasthan, making the state’s petrol prices the highest in the nation.
The Central government has kept fuel prices steady since May of last year. On May 21, 2022, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman amended the excise charges, lowering them by Rs 8 for gasoline and Rs 6 for diesel per liter.
Modi contrasted the cost of gas in Rajasthan with nearby BJP-run states during a mass gathering in Pali. He emphasized the stark disparity in cost, pointing out that the Rajasthani Congress administration was selling gasoline for as much as Rs. 108 a liter.
Fuel costs in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata have not changed. In Delhi, a litre of petrol costs Rs 96.72, while a litre of diesel costs Rs 89.62. In Mumbai, a litre of petrol costs Rs 106.31, while a litre of diesel costs Rs 94.27. Diesel is sold in Kolkata for Rs 92.76 per litre and gasoline for Rs 106.31 per litre. In Chennai, a liter of petrol costs Rs 102.63, while a litre of diesel costs Rs 94.24.
Value Added Tax (VAT), freight costs, and local taxes are some of the additional levies that contribute to regional disparities in fuel pricing among states.
Rajasthan leads the nation in crimes against women, according to Modi, who also attacked the Congress administration for the state’s increased rate of such occurrences. Union Minister Hardeep Singh said that during the previous few years, extra fuel and diesel levies brought in over Rs 35,975 crore for the Congress government.
