In 2023, neither team leader Rohit Sharma nor star batter Virat Kohli appeared in a single T20 international match.
In T20 internationals, where we witnessed the rise of numerous new stars like Rinku Singh, Yashaswi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, etc., 2023 was a great year for Indian cricket.
This was made feasible by the BCCI’s desire to develop and test out young cricket players while also controlling the workload of experienced team players, including Virat Kohli and team captain Rohit Sharma, who both played very few Twenty20 international matches and many other senior squad members who did.
Due to this circumstance, several of the young players who are on the rise ended up earning the most money in T20Is this season. Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm fast bowler, participated in 19 T20 matches for his country, which is the most of any player this year.
Arshdeep also became the top earner from T20i match fees, with the BCCI paying 3 lakh each game. In the just finished India-Australia Twenty20 series, Singh is followed by Suryakumar Yadav, the current captain of the Indian T20 team, who recently took over for the injured Hardik Pandya.

With his 16 T20I appearances this year, Suryakumar’s total match fee in 2023 will be about INR 48 Lakhs. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Axar Patel, and Tilak Varma, who have each played 13 matches and earned INR 39 Lakh, occupy the third position. Conversely, after 11 games and a combined earnings of INR 33 Lakh, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, and Shubman Gill occupy the fourth position.
The youthful group India had won five of the six series it played in 2023 and fourteen of the twenty-one Twenty20 matches, demonstrating a fantastic year both in terms of experience and performance.
Their lone series setback occurred in August when West Indies defeated India 2-3. In their most recent Twenty20 series, India defeated Australia 4-1 under the men in blue. Starting on December 10, they will play the formidable Proteas in a three-match T20I series, with Suryakumar Yadav captaining the team.
