A vehicle carrying five Army soldiers were fired upon by “unidentified terrorists” who “took advantage of heavy rain and low visibility in the area” on Thursday afternoon in Poonch district of J&K , according to a statement from the Udhampur-based Norther Command.
The terrorists opened fire on the vehicle at around 3 o’ clock near the Bhimber Gali area, and it later caught fire from what was probably a grenade attack, according to the army.
According to a statement released by the Army headquarters, Northern Command, the unnamed terrorists opened fire on the Army vehicle by taking advantage of the area’s heavy rain and poor sight.
The use of grenades by terrorists, undoubtedly caused the car to catch fire.
According to the Army, the event claimed the lives of five members of the Rashtriya Rifles regiment who had been deployed for counter-terrosism operations nearby.
Another soldier was transported to the hospital and is receiving treatment after being critically hurt during the incident.
“Angry at the catastrophe that occurred in Poonch District (J&K), where the Indian Army lost its courageous warriors as a result of a vehicle fire.
My thoughts are with the deceased families in this terrible hour, said Rajnath Singh, the defence minister.
The terrorist incident occurred on the dame day Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bailwal Bhutto Zardari said he will travel to India next month for the meeting of the Foreign minister of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Goa.
Notably, Srinagar will host a meeting of the G20 Tourism working group in May.
Last week, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the security situation in the Union territory.
Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh, the director general of police, and other top officials were present at the meeting.
