Days after he testified in a whistleblower case against the business, he passed away. John Barrett, a former whistleblower for Boeing who was well-known for questioning the company’s production standards, was discovered dead in the US.
According to the inquiry, on March 9th, the 62-year-old self-inflicted wound and passed away. Days after he testified in a whistleblower case against the business, he passed away.
The business expressed its sadness at hearing of John’s loss. “We are saddened by Mr. Barnett’s passing, and our thoughts are with his family and friends,” Boeing said in a statement.
Due to health issues, John Barrett, who had worked for Boeing for 32 years, retired in 2017. He began his career in 2010 as a quality manager at the North Charleston plant that produces the 787 Dreamliner, a cutting-edge aircraft primarily utilized for long-haul flights.
In an interview with the BBC in 2019, he disclosed that, in order to avoid delays, workers had been pressuring managers to have subpar parts installed on the airplane during the assembly line. Furthermore, he claimed to have discovered significant issues with oxygen systems, suggesting that in an emergency, only one out of every four breathing masks might not function.
Additionally, he told the BBC that the workers allowed defective components to disappear by not following the protocols meant to trace them through the production.
Barrett had further stated that he had voiced his worries to his managers, but that they had done nothing about them. Despite Boeing’s denial of these claims, portions of Mr. Barnett’s worries were supported by a 2017 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) examination, which was conducted by the US authority.
Regarding the problem with the oxygen cylinders, the business stated that it had “discovered certain oxygen bottles obtained from the supplier that were not deploying correctly” in 2017.
John provided an official deposition last week during which he was questioned by the attorneys for Boeing and then subjected to a cross-examination by his own attorney. On Saturday, he was scheduled to be questioned once more. Following inquiries at his hotel after he failed to show up, he was discovered dead in his truck in the parking lot.
