Cage Match

The two tech billionaires this week engaged in a now-viral back-and-forth on Twitter and Instagram that appeared to agree on a “cage match” competition.

Everything began when Musk, who owns Twitter, replied to a post about Meta allegedly getting ready to launch a new Twitter competitor named “Threads.”

Musk made fun of the idea that the world would soon be “exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options”. however a Twitter user quickly corrected him, nothing that Zuckerberg has jiu-jitsu experience.

“I’m up for a cage match if he is lol,” Musk wrote late Tuesday.

Soon after, CEO of Facebook and Instagram’s parent company, Meta Platforms, Mark Zuckerberg, responded and seemed to accept Musk’s suggestion.

On a Wednesday night Instagram story, Zuckerberg urged followers to “Send me location” along with a screenshot of Musk’s tweet and a comment pleading with Twitter’s owner to “Start training”.

In reality, Zuckerberg has experience in mixed martial arts. Last month, the founder of Facebook announced that he had won his first jiu-jitsu competition.

Musk suggested the Vegas Octagon in answer to Zuckerberg’s Wednesday plea for a location. He the made jokes about his training regimen and fighting style, implying that the conflict might not be serious.

Musk stated, “I have this awesome technique that i refer to as “The walrus,’ when I just lie on top of my opponent and do nothing.

It is still unclear whether Musk and Zuckerberg will enter the ring, especially given the frequency with which Musk talks about taking action but rarely really does so.

Even if their agreement to a cage match is just joke, the banter got people’s attention. As a result, a never-ending stream of “choose your fighter” memes and posting have appeared.

A spokesperson for Meta told The Associated press that ” the story speaks for itself.” Zuckerberg has not added any more commentary.

Bids are already being made for a likely winner despite the uncertainty of a cage match taking place. On Thursday, the odds according to DraftKings were 140+ for Musk and -160 for Zuckerberg.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship, which owns the Octagon, and Twitter were also contacted by The Associated Press for comments. The normal automated response from Twitter’s press email to reporters was a faeces emoji.
