On Sunday, Delhi had the best air quality of 2023, with an air quality index rating of 45. The temperature was also lower than usual due to rain and chilly winds.
Rain and chilly winds lowered the temperature in Delhi by five degrees Celsius on Sunday, with the maximum temperature settling at 28.3 degrees Celsius, ensuring that the national capital had its greatest air quality of the year.
The Commission For Air Quality Management (CAQM) reported that Delhi had its best air quality of the year on Sunday.
On Sunday, Delhi’s 24-hour Air Quality Index was 45, putting it in the ‘good’ category.
An AQI of zero to 50 is deemed “good,” 51 to 100 “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 “moderate,” 201 to 300 “poor,” 301 to 400 “very poor,” and 401 to 500 “severe.”
“Delhi today registered its best air quality of the current year with an average AQI of 45 (‘Good’ AQI category). Earlier, during this year, Delhi has recorded Air Quality Index of 54 and 59 (‘Satisfactory’) on 9th September and 29th July respectively,” CAQM said in a post on X.
The minimum temperature was 23.5 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees lower than the season’s average.
The Safdarajung Observatory, the national capital’s official weather station, recorded 1.3 mm of rain between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. During the period, the observatories at Palam, Lodhi Road, Ayanagar, Narela, and Gurgaon recorded rainfall of 0.2 mm, 0.8 mm, 3 mm, 1.5 mm, and 7.5 mm, respectively.
The humidity levels fluctuated between 86% and 100%.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi received reports of waterlogging in five sites and tree uprooting in 16 locations. Mundka and Narela, among others, contacted the public works department over waterlogging.
During the last two days, the New Delhi Municipal Council’s (NDMC) Disaster Management Centre received 70 complaints. 26 of these were received late on Saturday, with the remainder arriving by 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Minor waterlogging, falling tree leaves, and faulty road lights were among the difficulties mentioned, demanding immediate correction.
According to officials, 19 cases of waterlogging were treated quickly in critical places such as Janpath, Sikandra Road, C-Hexagon, Copernicus Marg, Barakhamba Road, Harish Chander Mathur Lane, and Kautilya Marg.
Manual labor and super-sopper equipment were used to drain the collected water. Water that had accumulated in potted plants in visible locations was also removed.
The G20 Summit location and the majority of the hotels where delegates stayed fall under the control of the NDMC.
The weather forecast for Monday is for mostly cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain or drizzle in one or two spots. The high and low temperatures are expected to be 32 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The air quality is expected to remain’satisfactory’ from Monday to Wednesday.
In an earlier statement, Raj Niwas officials stated Lt Governor VK Saxena praised the “rain gods” for making the visit of visiting dignitaries for the G20 Summit all the more special by lowering temperatures and enhancing the Air Quality Index.
