Reboot of the Wizards of Waverly Place, The Russos are going back to their magical roots after being gone for over 10 years.

Here’s everything you need to know about the much awaited “Wizards of Waverly Place” revival, from the cast to the release date. Deadline revealed in January 2024 that the wizard family will make a comeback in the much anticipated Wizards of Waverly Place reboot.

Selena Gomez will portray the rule-following family wizard Alex Russo in the series, while David Henrie will play Alex’s bookish brother Justin Russo, who was last seen being elevated to headmaster of WizTech.

Henrie shared an image of the pilot script with a wand on top of it on Instagram the same day that Deadline made its report. “We’ve grown 😊, but the Russos are excited to join your family again,” he captioned the photo. 2024 is the year magic returns! 🥄

Reposting the Deadline article and expressing her excitement, Gomez also added her two cents. She then shared an old picture of herself and Henrie from Wizards of Waverly Place with the message, “We’re back.”

During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Gomez also discussed the impending comeback, stating, “It’s gonna be really fun.” Reintroducing the characters excites me. I can’t wait for you all to see it.

When will the revival of Wizards of Waverly Place air?

Henrie posted a picture of the pilot screenplay with a wand on top of it on Instagram, indicating that the revival will begin in 2024, but no official date has been announced yet.

In order to verify that filming for the pilot episode had concluded, Henrie shared a video of the cast writing their names on the rear of the set on Instagram on February 4, 2024.

“The sequel’s pilot is concluded! We put our signatures on the back of the set at the start of the first series, and we’re doing the same thing for the sequel! I’m eager for the Russos to reunite with your family,” he captioned the photo.

Henrie, who will be a series regular, posted a picture on Instagram of himself, Gomez, and their on-screen parents, played by David DeLuise and Maria Canals-Barrera, announcing that they will each be returning as Jerry and Theresa Russo.

Although he was noticeably absent from the picture, Jake T. Austin, who played Gomez and Henrie’s on-screen goofy younger brother Max Russo, confirmed that he would be returning when he shared the photo on his Instagram Story with the caption, “Wow! Am looking forward to getting together with my wizards family.”

What is the revival of the Wizards of Waverly Place about?

The show “picks up after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons,” according to an official synopsis. However, he is taken aback when a strong young magician who needs instruction knocks on his door. Because in order to secure the Wizard World’s future, Justin needs to accept his history.

Justin was still in possession of his powers when the first series concluded, and he was the headmaster of WizTech, a wizarding institution modeled like Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books. However, it doesn’t seem to be the case now.

Justin wouldn’t have any powers because it is stipulated in the Wizards of Waverly Place world’s regulations that a wizard must give up their powers in order to marry a non-magical mortal.
