At seven feet six inches, Jagdeep Singh is reputed to be the tallest Sikh in the world. He was a member of the Bir Khalsa group, which was known for their “gatka” and dangerous deeds. The former Punjab Police constable Jagdeep Singh gained notoriety in 2019 after competing on the reality TV program America’s Got Talent.
He made the local news once more on Friday, but this time for the wrong reason: according to the police, 7 feet 6 inch Jagdeep Singh was one of three people detained with 500 grams of heroin.
In the Tarn Taran district, heroin was found in Jagdeep Singh’s SUV, a senior police official informed news agency PTI. The Punjab Police’s state special operation cell reportedly took two people into custody, including Jagdeep, also known as Deep Singh.
According to PTI, Jagdeep, who is reputed to be the tallest Sikh in the world at seven feet six inches, was a member of the Bir Khalsa organization that engaged in daring stunts and practiced the traditional Sikh martial technique known as “gatka.”
Founder of the Bir Khalsa group Kanwaljit Singh, blindfolded, smashed watermelons and coconuts around Jagdeep as he lay on the ground during one of their 2019 America’s Got Talent shows. The ensemble has participated in Australia’s Got Talent as well.
Following Jagdeep’s appearance before a local court, the police indicated they would look into the whole drug-smuggling network and placed him on a five-day police remand. They alleged that Jagdeep had prematurely retired from the police force.
“We’re searching for the other parties concerned. A five-day remand of Jagdeep Singh has been granted to us. We are looking at the nexus as well. They have found 500 grams of heroin on him. Inspector Kanwar Iqbal Singh of the state special operation cell was quoted by news outlet ANI as saying, “He has been arrested from Tarn Taran.”
According to Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, commissioner of police in Amritsar, the Punjab Police uncovered a drug smuggling ring earlier this week by arresting four people and seizing 3 kilograms of heroin and ₹9 lakh in cash from their belongings.
The people who were taken into custody include Sahil Kumar alias Manthan from Durgiana Abadi in Amritsar, Gourav alias Kali from Varyam Singh Colony in Amritsar, Rashpal Singh from the town of Hoshiar Nagar in Amritsar, and Vikramjeet Singh alias Vicky from Lohgarh in Amritsar.
In addition to confiscating heroin, law enforcement officials seized the Innova vehicle that was intended to transport the heroin shipment.
