The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advise in advance of the G-20 Summit in Delhi. To protect security, certain sites will be identified as controlled or regulated zones from September 8 to September 10.
The Delhi Metro will issue Tourist Smart Cards to visitors to ease seamless commuting. In addition, specific routes have been established for driving to the airport and railway stations.
The Delhi Police has released a thorough traffic warning to help commuters during the next G-20 Summit, which will be held this weekend at the newly erected Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan in the national capital.
Several precautionary steps have been put in place to ensure the summit’s safety and security. From September 8 to 10, all educational institutions, as well as public and private offices, including banks, will be closed in the city.

During this time period, the entire New Delhi district will be designated as ‘Controlled Zone-I,’ while the area bounded by the Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) will be designated as a ‘Regulated Zone.’
From 5 a.m. on Friday to midnight on Sunday, certain limitations will be in force. It should be noted that passengers heading to the airport, as well as the New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations, may face delays as a result of these traffic restrictions.
The Delhi Police, on the other hand, has informed the public that travel to these locations will be possible.
How much of the G-20 summit will have an impact on Delhi traffic?
From September 7th to September 11th, 2023, specific traffic limitations will be in effect in and around New Delhi.
The Delhi traffic police have worked hard to ensure that Metro services run smoothly and that other public transportation options are available, all while adhering to certain standards.
Except for National Highway 48 (NH-48), regular traffic flow will be undisturbed beyond the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) jurisdiction.
Throughout Delhi, including New Delhi, medical establishments, food stores, milk booths, and vegetable/fruit vendors will remain open.
Within the Controlled Zone, government employees, media personnel, medical practitioners, and paramedics will be permitted to utilize both private and government cars.
General traffic, including existing commercial vehicles and buses, will be permitted on the Ring Road and the road network beyond the Ring Road to the city’s limits.

During the G-20 Summit, passenger transportation to the airport, railway stations, and ISBTs will remain operational. Only genuine inhabitants and approved cars will be allowed to move around the New Delhi District.
After verification, vehicles providing services such as housekeeping, catering, and trash management for hotels, hospitals, and other critical installations in the New Delhi District would be permitted.
To reduce inconveniences, travellers are advised to make maximum use of Metro services, which will be available at all metro stations in Delhi.
However, from 5:00 AM on September 9th, 2023 until 11:00 PM on September 10th, 2023, no one will be allowed to board or exit at Supreme Court Metro Station.
To aid commuters during the G-20 Summit, the Delhi Traffic Police has published a comprehensive traffic advice, recommending alternative routes and modes of transportation for seamless connectivity across Delhi.
It’s a good idea to stay up to date on official notifications concerning public transit timetables and any temporary modifications.
There will be few limitations on public transit during the conference.
Certain types of public transportation and routes of public transit may be modified or temporarily suspended due to security considerations during the G-20 Summit, which will take place from September 7 to September 11, 2023.
Airport, Railway, Metro services, Interstate Buses & City Buses, TSR/Taxis will operate normally; however, services provided by railroads, airlines, interstate buses, city buses, and TSR/Taxis may be affected/canceled. Metro services will continue to be available to passengers at all Metro stations.
However, boarding and de-boarding at the Supreme Court Metro Station will be prohibited from 0500 hours on September 9, 2023 to 2300 hours on October 8, 2023.
Interstate buses will also be permitted to enter Delhi. As recommended in the traffic advice, all such buses will terminate on the Ring Road.
City buses will operate on the Ring Road and the road network beyond the Ring Road to the outskirts of Delhi. These buses will be permitted to leave Delhi.
However, there would be no city bus service in the New Delhi area. From 0500 hours on September 9, 2023 to 2359 hours on September 10, 2023, no TSR or taxi would be permitted to enter or ply in the New Delhi District.
Taxis transporting genuine residents and visitors with legitimate reservations in hotels located within the New Delhi District, on the other hand, will be permitted to use the road network within the New Delhi District.
Only genuine inhabitants and approved cars will be permitted to travel within the New Delhi District.
Is there a lockdown in Delhi from September 9th to September 11th?
During the G-20 Summit in Delhi, there will be no lockdown measures in place. The Delhi traffic police have worked tirelessly to maintain uninterrupted Metro service and the availability of all kinds of public transit in accordance with certain regulations.
All medical establishments, food stores, milk booths, and vegetable/fruit vendors will remain open in Delhi, including New Delhi. General traffic, including all types of commercial vehicles and buses, would be allowed to travel on the Ring Road and the road network that extends beyond the Ring Road into Delhi’s outskirts.
How to reach the airport during G-20 summit?
The Delhi Traffic Police recommends taking the Airport Express Line of the Delhi Metro to the airport as a convenient and effective mode of transportation. Furthermore, from September 4 to 13, the Delhi Metro will sell ‘Tourist Smart Cards’ at designated kiosks in 36 metro stations, making travel easy for residents and visitors alike.

The following metro lines can be used to get to or from Delhi airport:
To go from Dwarka to T3 (and vice versa), take the Blue Line to Dwarka Sector 21 Station, then transfer to the Airport Express Line to IGI Airport T3.
To go from New Delhi to T3 (and vice versa), take the Yellow Line to New Delhi Station and then transfer to the Airport Express Line, which connects to IGI Airport T3. You can also take the Orange Line from Shivaji Stadium to IGI Airport T3.
To go from South Delhi to T3 (or vice way), take the Pink Line to Dhaula Kuan Station, then the Airport Express Line to IGI Airport T3.
Alternatively, take the Magenta Line to Hauz Khas Station, then the Yellow Line to Dilli Haat-INA Station, the Pink Line to Durgabhai Deshmukh South Campus Station, and lastly the Airport Express Line to IGI Airport T3.
To get from North Delhi to T3 (and vice versa), take the Red Line to Kashmere Gate Station, then transfer to the Yellow Line to New Delhi Station. You can then transfer to the Airport Express Line to go to IGI Airport T3.
How to reach the railway station?
People traveling to New Delhi Railway Station from South and West Delhi should start their journey from Dhaula Kuan and then take the following route:
Ring Road – Naraina Flyover – Mayapuri Chowk – Kirti Nagar Main Road – Shadipur Flyover Dhaula Kuan – R/A Pusa – Pusa Road – Dayal Chowk – Panchkuian Road – Outer Circle Connaught Place – Chelmsford Road (for Paharganj) or Minto Road – Bhavbhuti Marg (for Ajmeri Gate).
People commuting from North and East Delhi should take the following route:
Boulevard Road – Rani Jhansi Flyover – R/A Jhandewalan – D.B. Gupta Road – Sheela Cinema Road – Paharganj Bridge.
