In an effort to draw in international financial institutions, the Gujarati government has decided to permit alcohol drinking in GIFT City. In Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, which is close to the state capital Gandhinagar, hotels, restaurants, and clubs that provide “Wine and Dine” would be able to serve alcohol, the state government declared on Friday.

GIFT municipal officials, staff members, and business owners will not be subject to the state’s prohibition law, which forbids the drinking of alcoholic beverages.

Prohibition law exempts officials, staff, and business owners operating out of GIFT city from the state’s ban on alcohol use.

Permit for alcohol consumption
All workers in GIFT City, including owners and staff, will receive a liquor access permit.

The new GIFT municipal regulations also let guests to drink alcohol at hotels, clubs, and restaurants with temporary permits when those establishments’ permanent staff members are present.

As a result, GIFT City’s hotels, eateries, and nightclubs will be able to apply for a wine and dine facility license there. Liquor is permitted at hotels, clubs, and restaurants for both GIFT City employees and guests. The State government stated in a release that these establishments are not permitted to offer alcohol in bottles.

Since its creation in 1960 as a separate state from Mumbai State, Gujarat has been arid.

Relaxed prohibition
But in an effort to draw in foreign investment, the state has eased prohibition in a number of ways over the past ten years. First off, a state statute exempting Special Economic Zones (SEZs) from the state’s liquor consumption laws was approved.

Second, the State has permitted licensed liquor stores in certain hotels as part of its tourism policy; only visitors are permitted to purchase alcohol from the licensed establishments.

Rumor has it that some sixty hotels and nightclubs have been granted authorization to allow booze stores to serve visitors.

Nearly 48,000 local permit holders who have been granted permission by the State government due to their health requirements can also be served by these regulated liquor retailers.

The state health department’s suggestion may result in the issuance of a health permit allowing alcohol consumption.
