Delhi Woman dies after being dragged for several kilometers by car

Delhi: A 20-year-old girl died after her scooty was hit by a car and she was dragged for about 47 minutes on the roads in the national capital on January 1. The accused drove the car for over 13 kilometers for 47 minutes as the girl remained hanging from the car which passed through four police stations.

The horrific death of a 20-year-old girl who died after her scooty was hit by a car and dragged for more than 30 minutes on January 1 has shocked the in Delhi (national capital). Visuals from the accident show the girl being mercilessly dragged even as she screamed for help.

On the route that the car passed through, Shani bazar road kishan vihar to Kanjhawa road to Kanha wala jonti village, there are usually four to five PCR vans attached to every police station jurisdiction. This means there should have been at least 25 police vans patrolling on the route.

Police claimed that maximum force was deployed on the ground during the intervening night of December 31 and January 1, given the New Year celebrations.

Kanjhawala Police Station received a call on January 1 around 3:24 am saying, “A grey Baleno car is going towards Qutubgarh and there is a dead body hanging from it.”

Police contacted the caller who shared more details and police flashed the registration number of the vehicle

Around 29 minutes later, SHO Sultanpuri, who was on night patrolling, spotted a damaged scooty on middle of road at around 3:53 am and lodged the information with police station.

About 47 minutes after the first PCR call, another call was received at around 4:11 am informing that a girl’s body lying on the road. This call was recorded at Kanjhawala Delhi Police Station.

Later, crime forensic teams reached the spot and the body was sent to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Mangoluri.

According to sources, the accused have admitted that there were not stopped or checked by police at any point on the night of the accident. The accused, however, claimed they were not driving under the influence.

But the Delhi police said it will need a medical report to confirm whether the accused were intoxicated or not. All five accused are being questioned why they continuously drove between Sultanpuri and Kanjhawala

So far the accused have said they had gone out to celebrate New Year. They have denied committing any murder or sexual assault. In absence of any forensic report, investigating officers are not believing any statements given by the accused.
