After winning the 2015 in Canada and the 2019 edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, the USA seeks to achieve the “three-peat.”
This summer, the ninth FIFA Women’s World Cup will take place, and it will be co-hosted for the first time. The World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand beginning on July 20.
There will be 32 teams travelling to Australia, and each one of them has the same goal in mind: to compete in the championship game on August 20 at Sydney Olympic Stadium and win the prized trophy.
With victories in the 2015 tournament in Canada and the 2019 edition of the event in France, the United States of America (USA) wants to accomplish the “three-peat.” The USA is still the dominant force in women’s football, but with a significantly changed and very inexperienced team, other teams will have a better chance of succeeding.
One of the best examples of this is Sarah Wiegman’s England Lionesses, who, with their historic Euros victory at Wembley last summer, changed the perception of women’s football in the country. Although England has advanced to the last two semifinals, they will go higher this time.
Australia, the hosts, is one of the favourites and has star power thanks to Sam Kerr of Chelsea. The traditional suspects, Spain, Germany, and France, will also be trying their hardest to contain the Americans, while the 2019 champions Netherlands will also be hoping to exact revenge on the Americans for their loss to them in the group stages.
