This week, as part of India’s G20 presidency, the Tourism Working Group (TWG) meeting was held at the tent city in Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch.

On February 9, Ahmedabad hosted the start of a two day Urban-20 City Sherpas meeting with the goal of fostering cooperating amongst cities of identify solution that are in line with the G20 overarching goals.

As part of India’s G20, or Group of 20, chairmanship, this is the third G20 event to take place in Gujarat. Sherpas from the cities selected for U20 will attend the two-day initial meeting, which is being held by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

According to the official U20 website, the six areas of focus for discussion are promotion of environmentally friendly behavior, ensuring water security, accelerating climate finance, promoting local identity, reinventing frameworks for urban governance and planning, and igniting digital urban futures.

The draft statement would be finished following the two-day meeting in Ahmedabad, and once it had received the ˘mayour’s approval it would be delivered to the prime minister or a representative. The Mayoral Summit would take place on July 7 and July 8 in accordance with the U20 calendar, prior to the G20 leaders’ meeting in September.

G20

The U20, One of the G20’s inteaction groups, gives cities from G20 nations a forum to enable talks on important urban development challenge like climate change, social inclusion, sustainability mobility, and affordable housing, and to offer group solutions.

According to an official, cities are amongst the most sensitive to the effects of climate change, disasters, environmental degradation, resource depletion, growth, and socioeconomic inequality because of the millions of people that live in crowded metropolitan regions

The official stated, “We must act quickly to capitalise on urbanization potential as a catalyst to promote the proper kind of growth, which is sustainable, inclusive and equitable.
