According to the source, the main reason Russia is supporting Trump is because of the previous president’s stance on issues like US foreign policy in general and US help to Ukraine in particular.

According to many U.S. intelligence sources, Russia continues to view former President Donald Trump as its top candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

The U.S. intelligence community claims that Moscow’s political inclinations have not altered from previous election cycles in which Moscow sought to damage the candidacies of Trump’s Democratic opponents and support his own.

A senior intelligence officer asserted, speaking anonymously, that Russia is attempting to influence the 2024 election through a “whole of government approach.” This entails promoting Moscow’s chosen discourse, controlling social media, and leveraging “influential U.S. voices” to advance divergent narratives.

The Trump Team’s Reaction to the Intelligence Report

But in response, the Trump administration has attacked the intelligence assessment, calling it “backward” and asserting that Trump’s “effective peace through strength approach” stopped Russia from waging war while he was president. The Biden campaign has not yet responded to requests for comment.

Furthermore, a warning was issued by U.S. officials, who stated that Russia is allegedly employing state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) technology to fast disseminate bogus information on social media by establishing accounts that appear authentic. This “malign influence accelerant” was in use prior to Taiwan’s elections and is currently being expanded to further platforms.

The intelligence community said that although China is currently taking a more circumspect approach, Moscow continues to be a significant danger because Beijing feels that both U.S. political parties are attempting to curtail its power. Nonetheless, China is still making efforts to sway public opinion and enhance its ability to gather and handle data from American social media platforms.

As the 2024 election approaches, American authorities are alert to any attempts by foreign actors to influence divisive topics and sow doubt in the minds of Americans through the use of deepfake videos or other techniques. The increased transparency surrounding these threats is one facet of the intelligence community’s efforts to avoid foreign intervention in the political process and to educate the public.

Concerns of Foreign Influence in the 2024 Election

November 5, 2024 is the planned date of the 2024 US presidential election. The Democratic front-runner for president, Joe Biden, is seeking reelection, and Kamala Harris is his running mate. In the Republican race, former president Donald Trump has announced his candidacy, following in the footsteps of Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, some of whom have since withdrawn their campaigns. An independent candidate has also entered the race: Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Average national surveys show that President Biden and former President Trump are tied, with Trump leading by an average of two to three points.
