Over the next five years, the government of India plans to invest ₹ 11.80 lakh crores, according to Union Minister Anurag Thakur.
The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana will be extended by the Narendra Modi administration on Wednesday and will now run for five years starting on January 1, 2024.
Every month, 5 kg of free food grains will be given to the low-income members of the designated families. Almost 81 crore individuals will benefit from the 35 kg of free food grains that Antyodaya households receive each month.
Following the Cabinet meeting, Union minister Anurag Thakur declared that the government will spend ₹ 11.80 lakh crores over the next five years.
In 2020, the National Food Security Act (NFSA) introduced a pandemic relief scheme that offered 5 kg of free foodgrains each beneficiary per month, on top of the 5 kg of foodgrains that were subsidised.
The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana was included into the NFSA in December 2022, offering ration free for a year, as it came to a conclusion after several extensions.
A central project to supply drones to 15,000 women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) was also authorized by the Union cabinet. The scheme will cost ₹1,261 crore and run for two years, starting with the fiscal year 2024–25.
“The scheme aims to provide drones to 15,000 selected women SHGs during the period 2024-25 to 2025-2026 for providing rental services to farmers for agriculture purpose,” Thakur stated.
