Uber recently released travel data for passengers who were registered in India, providing insights into Indians who travel worldwide and their travel patterns. The analysis indicates a notable surge in the number of Indian users of the ridesharing app abroad in 2023, with Indians ranking second in terms of frequency of international travel on the platform, after Americans. Indian travelers are anticipated to break historical travel records during the current summer travel season.

Over the past two years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of Indians traveling worldwide; in the last year, almost a million used Uber abroad. According to the data, Indians visited almost 1,000 cities in 68 different nations during this time. The United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada continued to be the most visited countries even as the number of cities explored expanded.

Summer vacations, which fall around college and school breaks, are the most popular times for Indians to travel overseas. In contrast to June in 2022, May proved to be the most popular month for international travel in 2023.

“Over the past couple of years, Indians have been breaking all travel records, and it’s heartwarming to see how Uber continues to be their trusted last-mile partner in these travels,” said Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, in response to the trend. When Indians use Uber for their international journeys, it is a big sign of trust for us, whether it is for the comfort of riding late at night or the familiarity of seeing an airport in a foreign place.

Indian tourists used Uber for up to 21 distinct products across nations, including Comfort Electric (luxury EVs), Multimodal Transit (options including trains), and the ubiquitous UberX. They also traveled 25% farther in Ubers on average while overseas than while they were in India.
