In Sunday’s IPL 2024 final at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated SunRisers Hyderabad by eight wickets to win their third IPL championship.

Shreyas Iyer’s KKR crushed SRH in a one-sided match, twelve years after taking down the Chennai Super Kings at the same stadium to win their maiden championship.

On a red-soil pitch, Sunrisers captain Pat Cummins chose to bat first. However, Kolkata struck first, as Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora removed their lethal openers.

Before KKR gained total control, Arora removed the lethal Head for a third duck in four innings after Starc had already bowled Sharma out in the opening over. The middle order was neutralized by Andre Russell and the spinners, as the West Indies quickly took three wickets for 19 runs.

The lowest total in an IPL final, 113, was reached by SRH in 18.3 overs, and the Knights then cruised home in a lighthearted chase. For the third time this season, KKR defeated Sunrisers, driven by Venkatesh Iyer’s explosive fifty runs in just 24 balls.

With his 200 runs in just five innings during the IPL Playoffs, Venkatesh also emerged as KKR’s most prolific run scorer. In the absence of the DRS system, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was controversially removed leg-before, but Venkatesh went on to score the winning runs as KKR won the title with a six-match winning streak.
