At the Venkateswara Zoo in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday, an eight-year-old male Asiatic lion attacked to death a 38-year-old man who had gone inside its enclosure to take a selfie with it. Prahlad Gujjar, who is from the Alwar district of Rajasthan, arrived at the zoo around 4 p.m. and went into the restricted area. He was mauled to death by the lion that lived in the enclosure.
“Though our animal keeper noticed and cautioned Gujjar from entering the restricted area, he scaled the six-foot-high fence and jumped into the lions’ enclosure,” C Selvam, curator of the Tirupati Zoo, told Selvam added that despite their best efforts, the zoo personnel was unable to save him.
The official stated that his neck injuries were the only ones present on his body, which was found undamaged where the animal bit him. The nighthouse was locked with the lion after the incident.
The body was transported for a post-mortem after the police opened a case in the case. After investigating the enclosure and discovering Gujjar’s pocketbook, the staff got in touch with the deceased person’s family. Nevertheless, no cell phone has been found at the location.
