The internet tycoon who runs the Meta empire and is well-known for creating Facebook and Instagram has revealed a surprising new project for his extensive portfolio: a foray into cow grazing. The billionaire, who is well-known for his daring business ventures and rigorous exercise regimens, said that he has started raising cattle at Ko’olau Ranch on Kauai with the goal of producing premium beef.
“I started raising cattle at Ko’olau Ranch on Kauai, and my goal is to create some of the highest quality beef in the world,” Zuckerberg wrote in an Instagram post outlining his ambition. The wagyu and angus cattle breeds have been chosen for this endeavor, and they will be raised on a special diet consisting of macadamia meal and locally produced beer, guaranteeing a particularly regional and vertically integrated process. “That’s a lot of acres of macadamia trees; each cow eats 5,000–10,000 pounds of food a year,” Zuckerberg said, emphasizing the scope and commitment needed for this project. He also talked about how his daughters helped run the ranch, which helped them feel more connected to the endeavor as a family.

But Zuckerberg stands in sharp contrast to Microsoft’s billionaire competitor Bill Gates, who is also an active investor in environmentally sensitive businesses, with this agricultural effort. In order to address climate change, Gates has pushed for the use of synthetic beef in place of natural meat consumption. Gates stated, “I do believe all wealthy countries should move to 100% synthetic beef,” in an interview with MIT. The flavor difference is something you can get used to, and they promise to improve the flavor with time.
