The late army officer’s parents, Ravi Pratap Singh and Manju Singh, made an appeal to TV9 Bharatvarsh, stating that they would like the NOK rules “revisited” because their daughter-in-law, Smriti Singh, received the majority of Anshuman’s benefits after his death but no longer resides with them.

In July, a fire in Siachen claimed the life of Captain Anshuman Singh, who was on duty.

“The standards established for NOK are incorrect. I have discussed this with Rajnath Singh, the Minister of Defence, as well. The wife of Anshuman no longer resides with us.

They were only married for five months, and they don’t have any kids. We only have our son’s picture hanging on the wall with a garland on it, even though we are the co-recipients of his Kirti Chakra, Ravi Pratap Singh said to the TV channel.

We therefore desire a fix to NOK’s definition. The martyr’s wife ought to remain with his family, who are now heavily dependent on him, it should be resolved, he said.

Meanwhile, Manju Singh stated that they are requesting regulatory changes because they do not want other parents to “struggle.”

What say the NOK rules?
A person’s parents or guardians are listed as his “next of kin,” or his closest relatives, when they enlist in the army. Nevertheless, the cadet or officer’s spouse replaces his parents in his NOK record upon marriage.
