This is the ninth suspected suicide case involving tutoring students in Kota who are registering for competitive exams so far this year.

Police reported that the victim, an Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, resident, was discovered dead in his chamber on Thursday night.

The teenager arrived in Kota around a year ago, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shivraj Singh, and was attending a coaching facility to get ready for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

Singh claimed that his father had traveled to see him and had spent five days with him before departing on a Thursday afternoon for his home. Only a few hours after his father’s departure, the young youngster performed the drastic action.

He apparently ate supper at the dorm’s mess on Thursday and went back to his room around 7:00 p.m. When his son did not return his numerous calls, his father, who was traveling to Azamgarh by train, asked the hostel’s custodian to check on him. When the housekeeper went to check, she saw the student hanging from his room’s ceiling fan, Singh continued.

According to the cop, the initial investigation indicates that he did not socialize much and had no friends in Kota.

“After the death, the father, who was midway to Uttar Pradesh, returned. We handed over the body over to him,” said the DSP.

Even more SP Thakur Chandrasheel, in charge of the Kota Student Cell, revealed to IE on Friday that 19 suicides had already occurred in Kota, with the competitive environment and mounting academic pressure being the primary causes.

Data from the district administration show that 18 adolescents committed suicide in 2019, compared to 20 in 2018. However, there were no suicides in the city in 2020 or 2021 since the COVID-19 pandemic had forced students to return home.

In a related incidence, a young boy from Uttar Pradesh hanged himself in the dormitory room and committed suicide. According to the press, the incident happened soon after the victim’s father had abandoned him.
