How ICC Earn Money in World Cup
The International Cricket Council (ICC) earns money primarily through various revenue streams, including broadcasting rights, sponsorships, advertising, ticket sales, merchandise, and licensing agreements. Let me break down some of the key revenue sources for the ICC:
- Broadcasting Rights: Broadcasting rights are a significant source of revenue for the ICC. Television networks and digital platforms pay substantial amounts to secure the rights to broadcast ICC events such as the Cricket World Cup, ICC T20 World Cup, and various bilateral series.
- Sponsorships and Advertising: The ICC secures sponsorships from companies looking to associate their brands with cricket. These sponsorships can include global partnerships, event sponsorships, and sponsorships of individual teams or players. Advertising during ICC events also generates revenue.
- Ticket Sales: Ticket sales for matches played during ICC events contribute to the organization’s revenue. The sale of tickets for matches at venues around the world adds to the ICC’s income.
- Merchandising and Licensing: The sale of official merchandise, such as team jerseys, cricket equipment, and other branded products, is another revenue stream for the ICC. Licensing agreements with manufacturers and retailers also bring in revenue.
- Grants and Distributions: The ICC distributes funds to its member boards to support the development of cricket in various countries. These funds come from the revenue generated by ICC events and activities.
Regarding the revenue-sharing model with its members, the ICC has a structured system in place to distribute revenues among its member boards. The exact details of the revenue-sharing model may evolve over time, but traditionally, the ICC has followed a model where a significant portion of its revenues is distributed among its members based on various criteria such as the size of the board, the popularity of cricket in the country, and the performance of the national team.
The revenue-sharing model ensures that all member boards receive a fair share of the revenues generated by ICC events, helping to support the growth and development of cricket globally. Additionally, the ICC invests in various development programs and initiatives to promote the sport in emerging cricketing nations.
