The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, announced on Saturday that Xavier Lopez, best known by his stage name “Chabelo” had passed away at the age of 88.
The Sunday variety programme En Familia con Chabelo, which is Lopez’s most well known creation, ran for an astounding 48 years from 1967 to 2015.
According to Mexico president tweet, Jose Ramon his eldest son, “got up early to see him (on television) more than 40 years ago.
Although being in his 80s, López, who had no relation to the president, frequently performed while dressed as a child. He contributed to the development of an adult comics subgenre that was a mainstay of Mexican television for many years.
He spent his entire career singing in a child raspy squeak, thus because of his longevity, it was joking predicted that he would outline everyone else in the entertainment industry.
Jessica Nevilley, Lopez’s agent, confirmed his passing on Saturday morning and said funeral arrangements would be revealed later.
López, a citizen of the United States who was born in Chicago to Mexican parents, moved back to Mexico with his family as a young child and began his medical training there. Yet, acting was where he found his niche.
